For ACCOs & First Nations corporations

Community data, under community control.

Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations and First Nations corporations carry a responsibility most organisations do not: the information you hold is about your own community, and decisions about it belong with that community. The technology should reflect that, not work against it.

What usually brings organisations here

Program data spread across spreadsheets, paper forms and a few staff members' memory. Funders and boards asking for evidence that takes days to assemble. A sense that the data about your community is scattered across systems that other people run, under terms nobody in the organisation has read.

Often there is also a specific frustration: the indicators being reported on were designed somewhere else, for someone else's purposes, and do not describe what actually matters locally.

How we approach it

Every system runs on infrastructure your organisation owns, typically your own AWS account in Sydney. Not a shared platform where your community's information sits in the same database as other organisations' data under a vendor's terms of service. Your organisation holds the admin credentials, the backups and the ability to move or export everything at any time.

Where indicators are being defined, that work is designed around genuine community input rather than a template imported from elsewhere, so what gets measured is what your community considers meaningful.

Technical control is the part we can deliver with confidence. It supports your governance rather than replacing it: who within your community can see what, what consent applies, and how information is used remains your organisation's decision. Many organisations already work to an established data governance framework. We do not hold expertise in those frameworks and would not presume to advise you on them. Our job is narrower and more useful: to build a system that enforces whatever governance model your organisation decides on, and to change it when that model changes.

What this looks like

  • Infrastructure in an account your organisation owns and controls
  • No shared database holding other organisations' information
  • Access control down to individual records
  • An activity log showing who created, changed or deleted a record, and when
  • Offline data collection for work on Country and in remote communities
  • A private AI option where no document content leaves your systems
  • Training so your own staff can run and extend it

Being straight with you

DataBytes AI is not an Indigenous owned business and is not Supply Nation certified. If a government agency is your direct buyer, Indigenous Procurement Policy thresholds may require an Indigenous owned supplier to get first right of refusal, which is worth checking with your agency contact. Outside that, which covers most grant funded and directly engaged work, this is generally straightforward. We are also glad to work alongside, or refer you to, Indigenous owned technology providers where that is the better fit.

Tell us what your community needs to see.

A short, no obligation conversation about your current systems and what your board, members and funders are asking for. If a build is not the right answer for you, we will say so.
