For field research teams

Reliable data capture, a long way from a desk.

Fieldwork rarely happens somewhere with reliable coverage. If your data collection tool assumes a connection, it will fail exactly where you need it most.

The usual starting point

Paper forms that get damp, lost, or transcribed wrongly a week later. A consumer app that silently drops submissions once the signal goes. Photos and GPS points living on individual phones with no reliable link back to the record they belong to. And at the end of it, a manual re-entry job that introduces errors into data that took real effort to collect.

What we build

Mobile forms that work fully offline and sync automatically once a device reconnects, so a team can work a full day with no coverage and lose nothing. Photos, audio, GPS points and metadata stay attached to the record they belong to. Validation and quality checks run at the point of capture, where errors are cheap to fix, rather than at analysis time when they are not.

Collected data lands in a structured database with role based review, so a field officer, a supervisor and an external evaluator each see what is appropriate for them. Where location matters, coordinates can be captured with each record and stored properly, so the data can be mapped. Whether a map is actually the clearest way to read your data, and how much map work is worth doing, is a question for discovery rather than something to assume upfront.

Research-specific considerations

Where work involves human participants, consent status can be recorded against each record and used to control who can see it, rather than being tracked separately in a spreadsheet that drifts out of step with the data. Audit trails record who created, changed or deleted a record and when. Read-access logging — tracking who viewed a record, not just who changed it — can be configured where an ethics protocol requires it; ask us to scope this in if that applies to your project. To be clear about the division of labour: the system enforces the access rule, but deciding what the rule should be is your call and your ethics protocol's, not the software's. Data stays on infrastructure your organisation or institution controls, in Australia.

What this covers

  • Fully offline capture with automatic sync
  • Photos, audio, GPS and metadata bound to the record
  • Validation at the point of capture
  • Role based review and access
  • Geospatial view of collected data
  • Audit trails suitable for ethics-governed work
  • Production data held in Australia, on infrastructure you control

A note on scope

We build the collection, storage and reporting infrastructure. We are not an ethics adviser and do not sign off on protocols, consent design or cultural authority. Where those requirements exist, we build the technical controls to support the model your project has already agreed, and will say so plainly if a request goes beyond that.
